Extra large planter pots

The AXIS range is IDEALIST’s flagship extra-large fibreglass trough collection, purpose-built for terraces, hotel forecourts, office entrances and long boundary plantings. Lengths run from 100 up to 200 cm, with heights of 40, 50, 60 and 80 cm, giving soil volumes from 240 litres up to 640 litres — enough for hedging, bamboo, ornamental grasses and small trees. Fibreglass construction keeps the planters significantly lighter than concrete equivalents of the same size, in anthracite grey and black-grey finishes.

For a bold, architectural footprint, extra-large square and box planters bring strong geometric presence to patios, courtyards and commercial spaces. Sizes extend up to 55 cm and beyond, with soil capacities reaching 166 litres or more in fiberstone formats — enough for substantial shrubs and small ornamental trees. Their wide, stable base makes them inherently resistant to tipping, even with a top-heavy mature plant, and they work equally well as a single statement piece or in matching pairs.

Extra-large trough planters combine length with depth, giving roots room to spread along a path, terrace edge or boundary line. Faux lead and light-concrete troughs reach up to 100 cm in length and 185 litres in capacity, while the AXIS fibreglass range extends this further, up to 200 cm and 640 litres. This format is ideal for screening a patio, lining a driveway or creating a continuous green wall of hedging, grasses or seasonal planting along an open space.

As a general guide, an extra-large planter should be at least a third wider than the plant’s current root ball, with enough depth to avoid cramped roots. Shrubs and small ornamental trees typically need 90–185 litres; mature trees, large hedging runs or specimen plants are better suited to the 240–640 litre AXIS fibreglass range. Larger containers also dry out more slowly than small pots, reducing watering frequency — a practical advantage for terraces and commercial planting schemes.

Extra-large planters from IDEALIST are made from either lightweight fiberstone or GRP fibreglass, both frost-proof and UV-stable for permanent outdoor use in the UK. Every planter is supplied with pre-made drainage holes to prevent waterlogging in even the largest soil volumes. The smooth, hand-finished surface needs no sealing or repainting. For decking, roof terraces and tiled areas, pot feet are recommended to improve airflow and protect the surface beneath the planter.
